The crime rate in Denver, Colorado

Denver, Colorado is called the mile-high city. It’s set amidst the beautiful Rocky Mountains and is an entry point for visitors who come to Colorado to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and other sports during the winter as well as hiking in the summer. Unfortunately, it’s also much less safe than the average American city.
The Denver metropolitan area is only given a D rating when it comes to crime. It’s less safe than over 80% of the cities in the United States. The crime rate in Denver is 46.49 per 1,000 residents annually. In terms of violent crimes, there are 2.046 assaults and 0.6440 robberies per 1000 people in the Denver metro area. The homicide rate is 0.0252 and the number of rapes is 0.7144 per 1000 people. The total violent crime rate works out to 3.429 per 1000 people.
The rates for non-violent property crimes are much higher, with the combined rate for theft, vehicular theft, burglary, and arson working out to 28.01 per 1000 people. Drug crimes number 6.301 per 1000 residents.
While the crime rates seem quite serious, they are not evenly distributed throughout the city. Those that live in the eastern part of the Denver metro area will generally be pretty safe, as only about 1 in 34 crimes are committed in this area and they are more likely to be non-violent offenses. Meanwhile, the downtown area and the eastern neighborhoods will have rates as high as 1 in 7. The safest neighborhoods include the corridor through Arvada, Wheat Ridge, and Lakewood along the eastern side of the city, towards Golden, Colorado.
Meanwhile, the communities encompassed by Federal Heights, Westminster, and Commerce City are high-crime areas. Federal Blvd seems to act as a dividing line, with areas to the east being safer, in general.
